It is with great success that on Saturday 12/12/2009 S.O.L.A.R convention has begun at the town of Serres. The subject is holistic architecture and ecological construction, which is always current under the scope of international movement for controlling the increase of emission of pollutants in the atmosphere and the restriction of planet’s air pollution
This convention is being organized on the occasion of UN’s international summit in Copenhagen, bringing forward in the community an issue that will remain a strong concern for the next decades: climatic change.
The increased human activity for financial and development, demands more energy and natural recourses, thus increasing the consumption of fossil fuel and CO2 emission in the air, making global warming even worse. Buildings consume over 40% of produced energy and are responsible for more than 50% of harming emissions in the atmosphere, straining not only the environment but the problem of climatic change that the planet faces.
European Union is already trying to find ways to reduce CO2 emissions by 30% compared to 1990’s ratings, while a special mandated 2002/91 has been set to regulate building energy efficiency level aiming for full autonomy by 2016.
On the first day of the convention, vice minister for Economy, Development and Maritime Markos Bolaris made the inaugurating speech as well as ND’s Mp Theofilos Leontaridis, Perfecturer of Serres Stefanos Fotiadis, Mayor of Serres Ioannis Vlachos, Mayor of Strimona Vasileios Ketsetzis, Mayos of Lefkona Theodoros Georgiadis and former Mayor N. Zichns. Also the inauguration was hailed by special advisor of the Serres prefecture mr Giannis Xatzispiroglou, and various members of the cabinet. The convention, that had a spectacular number of participants, attended with great interest architects, mechanics and students from all over Greece, as well as many others.During the convention, honorary S.O.L.A.R member N.M.P professor and former P.A.S.O.K secretary Mr. Dimitris Rokos was celebrated and he stated his beliefs for a sustainable growth
Many speeches were heard during the convention by specialists in architectural and ecological construction.
Opening day’s program was completed with and open discussion among owners of bioclimatic buildings and a performance by a traditional Greek shadow performance theatre by Ilia Karella entitled “Karagiozis the architect”
The convention was sponsored by ERGOMASIF who manufactures and trades exclusively ISARHOLZ wood doors and frames of German standards and high quality.
